The usual suspects appeared, armed with not only marshmallow shooters but also acting under the influence of shaken soft drink cans (both a stimulant and a potential back-up weapon).
Charlie with one of the marshmallow shooters, clearly plotting his next maneuver.
Patty Kiki, ever-elusive of the camera lens, demonstrating her superior multi-tasking skills: Putting out a fire by phone while grilling over one.
Given the nature of our cul-de-sac, a few other families were waved over to partake of huge Costco cupcakes. Carrying forth the spirit of last weekend's gospel and homily (wherein loaves & fishes feed thousands), a tray of cupcakes kept being doled out and yet we have at least a quarter of the tray leftover. Truly, cupcakes as big as your face!
One of our new neighboring families was walking their gi-normous Greater Swiss Mountain dog. Charlie, having previously attempted to sweet-talk (non-verbally) the dad into handing over the leash, quickly took over the end made available (with the dad still clearly in control of the 175-pound Lucky) as if he was taking it for a walk. Soon, Charlie was looking in the dog's ears, petting it somewhat appropriately, and even -- in a completely unusual display of canine affection -- bent over (more of a tippy-toe lean) its neck and gave it a kiss. He also was spied leaning on its hips and saying, "Sit please". But perhaps the best moment was when Charlie ran over to pick up the straw beach mat and exclaimed, "Saddle!" as he headed back to the overloved Lucky.
