Return of the Conquering J-Crab!

Grandma MK and I fetched Jack from Camp Fiesta Island at 9:19 a.m. today. He was standing at the edge of the campsite, all packed up, with 2 adults in tow. Ready to go. Hoarse. A smidgen sun-burnt. Intact.

Home for a shower and offload of vast quantities of sand.
And, of course, a brotherly outpouring of welcome.

Here are the statistics:
Out of $38, he returns with $2.
Zero evidence that toiletries were utilized on a regular basis. He did report taking 3 showers because the sand bothered him.

2 formerly-blue towels now unrecognizably gray-brown.
2 pairs of underwear worn over 6 days.
5 pairs of socks dirty. (Those would be formerly-white, now gray).

1 pair of shoes officially retired.

1 pair of swimtrunks used, the other (wild yellow Hawaiian print) not used -- he wore slinky hand-me-down athletic shorts instead (and with no undershorts). Egads.
4 merit badges completed. Basketry. Canoeing. First Aid. Oceanography.

Totin' Chip done.
Tenderfood finished (excepting the Board of Review/Scoutmaster's Conference). Hallelujah!!!
Received 5 pieces of mail. It's damp...probably from his errant packing job than from tears.
Photo with dad. Priceless...the incredible paleness of bellying. From the back cover of the bestselling tome, "The Audacity of Awesomeness".

Welcome home, Jackie!

Hurrah! Jack is alive and not too heavily soiled! Well, I partially wone my bet--only three showers in 6 days. And good lord, look at those skanky socks!

OK, JACK ATTACK, make sure the gear goes away in the garage properly. It is after all my secret lair. Batman would not be pleased with Robin if all of his nifty BAT TOYS were strewn about, would he???

Well done on the merit badges and TENDERFOOT rank. I am proud!

Love, Dad

You only win a bet if you won it. English majors who type "wone" are highly suspect characters and probably cheated with insider information.

Jack!!!!
Congratulations on the rank and the merit badges. Ask your dad about roasting a young, frozen schwab (spelling?) in his first attempt at outdoor cooking.
Keep on keeping on.

Respects,
Grandpa

PS - Moira, ask Sue to tell you about the first Philmont campout that your other half went on when he was a grandiose 11 years old, especially the "sanitation" stories of all of the mothers involved. Velly interesting.

I'm just saying that you "One" with assymetric information having once been a Jack-esque character -- long on "I told you so" and short on hygiene efforts.

Humph :-P
