Bonus LLGA Photos...for ye who cannot get enough!

Lucy will need to learn this rule: Don't be a billygoat toward your Ralph Lauren.

Or to any label!

Every gal needs a big plaid madras hat! And a big gummy grin.

This onesie has a little fuzzy sheep applique and reads "I love ewe"...awwww. And those are suede pants...too cute and now she's too rotund to fit into them again. What a fussy britches!

Yes, it does read "Sweet" with a peapod. And she is (most of the time).

expensive day in the Castle...and a newsworthy one!

Honda CR-V "fuel emission light" finally taken in for further scrutiny by dealership.

$572 later we have a new oxygen sensor...supposedly this tells the vehicle how much gas to send forward for a given manuever. Malfunctioning, not enough/too much.

Drat! Double-drat!!

Patty Grace noted wryly that I'm coddling a 5-1/2-year-old...it doesn't need that fancy stuff.

================

Meanwhile, APC and I were at Target (R) Boutique, in order to render the newly redone (pending) boys' room allergy-free. New allergy pillows and mattress covers and linens. Three Targets -- and FIVE (5) trips through -- required to outfit three twin beds. Inefficiencies aside it was a productive day.

APC had a 10%-off all-day-purchases so at least we "saved" by spending. (Sand Crab will LOVE that!)

APC got the job! APC got the job! Congrats to Aunt Awesome!

Verdict: LLGA -

Plugged tear ducts.

14 pounds.

Jamie & LLGA

At first, she seemed a bit uneasy with her current perch.

The Heisman hold isn't exactly featured in the parenting books.

Of all the boys, Jamie is the most eager to hold Lucy. She seems pretty fond of him, too.

Medical Malady Unveiled: Jamie's Eyes

Saw the ophthamologist this morning...yes, it was indeed Death by Waiting Room in that curious nesting-waiting-room experience unique to eye doctors. Lucky for me, I got a double-dose of torture as Jamie freaked out about the numbing drops, which wore my patience to Raw.

Verdict was that Jamie has the equivalent of hives on his sclera (the white part). He's on steroid eye drops for a couple of weeks to see if that improves the situation.

Naturally, any doctor giving him a reason for his discomfort and unsightliness (ha, eye pun) means -- say it with me -- an opportunity for Jamie to write a "five-star" comment card. Today's version encouraged this fine young resident with a "You have a talent as an eye doctor." And, among other glad tidings, closed with "Safe reguards (sic), Jamie".

In a splendidly ironic twist, LLGA tonight is sporting a lovely eye discharge. Probably a tear duct issue given her age and declining cold; however, wouldn't it have been lovely to have this emerge yesterday so I could go to the eye doctor and get 2 opinions from one visit?

Charlie's School Photo Fiasco

Charlie was sick for school pix. Got my mind around the disappointment of not spending a small fortune for a photo of questionable cuteness. But then, lo, this evening in his backpack we received evidence that this Very Day, his likeness was captured (apparently, on "make-up photo day"). Horrible haircut, not particularly photogenic attire, and why button the polo for school?!

So, Squiggy as he's being called around these parts, is available for order.
Or you can just enjoy the blog.

I'm partial -- if that's even possible -- toward proof 2.

The good news is that I'm solidly back in contention for MOTY!!!

Now for something completely silly!

With focus,

grace, and

GRIT

APC nails her landing!!

Mommy and Me Photos (10/27/08)

Moral of this pictographic tale:
One should *always* wear foundation and a lip tint.

Secondary moral:
It is difficult to compete with a plump two-month-old, especially if you are a "winter" boasting an apricot nursing top.

Home Improvement Reality TV...Starring Aunt Awesome

Aunt Patty Cake is pitted against her nemesises (nemisi?) -- spellcheck says: nemeses! -- in the battle for organizational dominance. Her nemeses would be pretty much all of the permanent inhabitants of the Castle. Plus GMK, who left some little parting gifts of storage joy.

Yesterday's project was APC's amazing trade-out of the abominable gray computer cart for a sleek, chromatic motif-adhering computer desk. Whee!

Many dust bunnies gave their lives in this battle of good vs. allergen.
Hey, meanwhile, I fixed the caster on the chair! (It required one to line up the new caster with a metal rod and push in). And...I replaced the slats on Tim's bed with less deluxe but allegedly indestructible ones. Look over here, world, I'm helping!!

But of greater intrigue was the "how":

We spent the bulk of our respite-free weekend researching options on the 'net and scouring the 2009 IKEA catalogue.

Entering IKEA shortly after it opened on Monday, the two Kinsella gals made rapid-fire buying decisions that would put the US armed forces to shame. There! Not there! (Of course, APC is the quintessential field marshal, keeping her eye on the mission and rejecting my State Dept.-type inclination to engage with the environment -- meaning look for things not on the List).

We got through the check-out and were faced with the very real, very sobering realization that there was NO WAY that all our purchases could fit in the minivan with Bebe's seat installed. Since I wasn't game for strapping her to the van roof, we opted to pay a small fee for home delivery for several bulkier items.

After we (meaning a yellow-shirted employee of the aforementioned retailer and I)loaded the van, however, we (APC mostly) realized we'd picked up 4-drawer chests when we meant to have 3-drawer chests. Not only an extra $100 out of pocket, but too tall for the planned space. Ugh. Make that, "&*($!" because we were down to the wire to play the omni-fun party game, "Beat the Bus Home".

So APC, LLGA, and I raced home to meet Charlie, load the broken mattress bases that were under warranty, and traverse back to that Mecca of Cheap Home Furnishings that will owe you nothing when the boys inevitably destroy them. Take 2. Charlie ate his nourishing lunch and then goofed around the front, redoing the radio settings and making sure windshield wipers would go crazy when the van started up next. Lucy ate her nourishing and 95%ile-maintaining lunch and received a couple diaper changes. Only thing missing was the death-defying, hairpin-turns on a 1970s-era bus with squawking poultry to give me that "I'm suffering in a vehicle trapped with my children" feeling.

Erin emerged about 45 super-long minutes later, having exchanged the dressers, obtained a replacement part for a rolling desk chair, and having -- through her "retail-whisperer" act -- obtained STORE CREDIT for the past-90-days-return defective items. And away we went, exhausted but triumphant.

Today brings a daunting but do-able list of projects:
* Disassemble the wooden bunk beds;
* Clean gray metal computer desk and load Jack's somewhat unreliable Mac upon it;

* Replace a broken leg on the red homework table;
Victory!

* Assemble metal twin bunk beds;
Beginning

Midway with Charlie-boy performing feats of assistance:

Big thumbs-up from Jamie:

and
* Assemble metal matching day bed.

Erin has cracked open the power tools and, while brandishing them in the Queen's vicinity, informed that I am an unhelpful helper. Charlie, apparently, is more helpful?

Scholastic Giddiness from the Castle

Tim's Semester 1 Progress Report 1

Band 8th grade Intermediate
Academic grade = B
Citizenship = E (excellent)
"Not turning in assignments"
(Tim only attends 3 days a week in order to attend social/rec program).

P.E. 8th grade
Academic grade = A
Citizenship = E
"An outstanding student"
"A pleasure to have in class"

Yes, in this upside-down planet, Tim's GPA is 3.5000.

More Gratuitous LLGA Pictures

Practicing her soccer kicks and working off some of the rolls-upon-rolls with her favorite toy (a mini-mylar balloon).

Outfit and temperament shared with her siblings!

Not every girl is lucky enough to have an Auntie Awesome to entertain and indulge her.

The coefficient of friction of that hair acroutrement is the very barest minimum to allow it to defy gravity and cling to the wisp of baby-fine rooster-hair.

Charlie and Sister

50 pounds background, almost 15 pounds in the foreground

Who says he cannot imitate? Who thinks she's not ready to rumble?

"Morale Calls" Go Both Ways.

Tim's longest phone listen ever.

Jack, taking an overseas call from Dad "speaking in a stern tone" to his errant son, on demand from me. Note that he has one of MY hair clips restraining his lips together -- not MY idea. Sigh.

Pacing (like his mother does when on the phone). Still being reamed, much to my delight.

Jack prepared to issue a witty retort/rebuttal/diversionary statement.

Lucy listening to Daddy's voice.

Finally...evidence of productivity!

Exhibit A: Completed a 20-plus-page intake form for Tim to begin evaluation for in-home behavioral services through Triwest. Also photocopied and/or e-mailed other required supporting documents.

Exhibit B: Completed and submitted ahead of the due date Tim's Medi-Cal re-determination packet. (Note: Medi-Cal is required for us to continue to qualify for "institutional deeming" waivers and must be re-upped yearly. Meanwhile Charlie, who also has to be in the HHS system, cycles about 6-months away from Tim--so I get this joy TWICE a year).

Exhibit C: Filed all the doctor's and parental paperwork for Charlie's IHSS case. Painful and grotesque, but DONE.

Exhibit D: Haven't been late on a bill yet -- even with an LLGA underfoot and a lots of sandpiles.

Exhibit E: Am slowly but surely divesting our Castle of infant/toddler boy items accumulated over the past decade or so.

Exhibit F: Procured 5 (five) pumpkins to carve this week. Five little jack-o-lanterns will sit on our stoop. Haven't done jack-anything to prepare for Halloween otherwise, except moo-cow-piggie any candy that crosses our threshhold.

Exhibit G: Prepared for shipment another care package for Lt. Colonel Crab. (No more Major Crab, he's an Official Silverback now). Just need to make it to the P.O.

Exhibit H: Dishes done. Laundry going. Pretty impressive considering the coughing of all four boys and the nightly (and more dramatic) baby parties of LLGA.

Exhibit I: Turned in money and am poised to deliver Boy Scout popcorn. It's a miracle. We sold $173 worth, which is solid given a. the ridiculous number of fundraisers we are asked to do; and b. the number of (beach)balls in the air around here.

Patty Day-Na treads into the Castle...brave woman!

Visiting from the Lone Star State....

Tim was psyched to see Mrs. E!

Awww...
