Saturday, August 29th
Charlie in his new, organic, construction jammies, courtesy of Patty LT.
LLGA on the couch with her seahorse.
Therapy in the morning.
Lunch from the castle galley. (Slim pickings from the unusual humidity and heat, which had encouraged green growth on several bread options, if you must know).
Then, packed the crablets into and set out for the Odyssey.
First stop: Birch Aquarium. 50 minutes was a plenty-lengthy visit.

God bless the cool kelp forest!

By the Tide Pool sign ("where the sand meets the sea")...I think we've found our new blog title!

Pointing, eager right until...
the docent brought the exhibit to her. Then she wanted nothing to do with it! Punk-ette!

Jack with a whirlybird behind him.

CQ thought bubble: "Wonder if they sell these for residential use??"
Between 2 shuddering attacks...very somber.
It was so darn hot. She's in my arms as I snapped this (while the boys, naturally, were using the men's room).
Exit shot. There was surprising amounts of whining that we hadn't "stayed long enough." Second stop: Target Boutique. Felt like we spent about 25 minutes in the check-out line! Strangely, it did not occur to me to photograph this outing.
Third stop: The Der, for Tastee Freeze goodies.
Once home, I did haircuts for the eldest three. Made most-amazing dinner of Meatball and Chicken Bakes for 3, cold cereal and a banana for Charlie-boy, and Garlic Fries (dinner of champions and those with Outstanding Cholesterol Scores). LLGA managed to schwack her noggin no fewer than 4 times with a sudden recurrence of the "shuddering attacks" (at least 6 episodes).
Jamie bit Charlie and so he spent 20 minutes outside the back door, rediscovering his humanity.
Jack spilled water and left it on the kitchen floor, causing LLGA to slip and konk her noggin (for the FIFTH time in as many hours) and so he earned an outside visit (in ridiculous heat) to consider that actions have consequences.
The day ended with taking in the Chargers game and the cold, cruel realization that the CQ has a plugged duct issue. Painful and annoying. Sigh. But at least we made it through the sitter-free day.
Friday, August 28th.
This day begun with a call from the Developmental Pediatrics Department to schedule LLGA per referral with an ASAP appointment for Sept. 8th with our beloved Dr. White. There's enough pointing and nice play skills that I'm not thinking ASD, but there's definitely not much verbalizing and plenty of gagging.
No school for Tim. But Al, who had called Thursday late afternoon to see if I "really needed him or whether he could go to a different client", did show. Early even.
Jack, LLGA, and I headed once again to Pt. Loma.
Gassed up the van. Wandered around the Mini-Mart, absorbing A/C.
Went to my annual physical.
Cue that celestial music:
The CQ is a Cholesterol Enigma. Despite daily dosing with Zingers and Twinkies and nearly-daily Der, the stats were phenomenal--
Total cholesterol: 174.
HDL: 60
LDL:108
Glucose: 91.
Triglyeride: 32.
And I'm not anemic :-) thanks to my burger-intake from Carl's Jr. and steak-intake from Outback!
Oh, and I weighed 12 pounds less than my home scale intimated. While still not a dreamlike number, I'll take it!
Celebrated with a trip through Arby's AGAIN.
Home to sweat out the hottest day (SDSU 110-degrees) in the cave-castle and then take Jack to/fro baseball practice.

Thursday, August 27th.
First-thing-in-the-morning call from the hospital ... come get blood drawn -- make that FASTING blood draw. Pronto!
Delivered APC to the airport and stopped at NTC to comply. (Yes, the four crablets were left in a wide-open van in order to accomplish this in 15 minutes. I have become GMK).
Then to Target for a quick shop with the crablets in tow, reminding me why I didn't bring them to the phlebotomist.
Through Arby's to reward ourselves. Them for not being complete ass-clowns and me for not wringing their shells pre-molting.
Then home for Charlie's therapy in time for USPS to deliver 3 certified letters from the Regional Center, cutting/eliminating services to Charlie and Tim. Let the appeals commence. Ugh.

I took these photos of LLGA in a hand-me-down frock from a former, dear neighbor. The dress (and a couple others) were entrusted to me while I was pregnant with J-crab, Sr. I went online to see if I could locate her phone number, feeling drawn to call her and learned the saddest news, that her husband had passed away this summer after a second bout of cancer. He was, as Sand Crab put it, a gentleman and a patriot. Please add the Biever Family to your prayers.

Wednesday, August 26th.
APC took the J-crabs to the beach for 3 hours. She's a boogie-board convert!
Home for charming dinner together and photo shoot:

Alas, Tim had a shower-based snap. The alligator safety floor mat apparently needs to go inside the cupboard, not just on the floor outside the tub. Oops!
When the drama-dust settled, there was a broken mirror (really?! like I need an extra dosing of bad luck!) and Tim miraculously had only two superficial cuts on his wrist.

The clean-up, however, took hours. Alejandro again saved the day, coming after his church event and removing the shattered glass.

APC took the 3 middle kids on a magical, nighttime drive to Yogurt-on-the-Rocks and then through Jack in the Box. She also took the point on bathroom clean-up whilst I vacuumed the hall and other rooms over and over again, having located a shard in Tim's room the hard way (with my foot).

Tuesday, August 25th.
Totally forgot to put the cute bib on her on Monday! Drat!
So much fun can hardly be described.I spent 1 hr. 50 min. inside the Medi-Cal cattle-call center, dealing with THEIR error on Charlie's case being discontinued (which in turn makes him ineligible for IHSS, a BIG problem).
This meant that APC spent 1 hr. 50 min. inside the Odyssey with 4 crablets.
Misery all around.
The good news is that Steven Phillipshell is my new Sand Castle Hero as he retroactively repaired Charlie's case and saved my feeble sanity.
Since we were all suffering anyway, we proceeded to the Honda dealership to get the Odyssey serviced. Apparently, only after we paid our money for the service, I was reprimanded for bringing it in "too early". Kiss my shell-fanny!
And since we were clearly all gluttons for punishment, we then drove to the Regional Center to fetch a sheet of paper that updated Charlie's eligibility for a specific federal waiver and then delivered it to Medi-Cal.
Reward: APC's First-ever In n' Out Experience. Gonna lure her to So-Cal yet!
Could NEVER have done this without APC. Never, never, never.
Erin and Charlie-boy played "con-stwuc-shun".
If I were to have another crablet -- which I will not -- the naming game would be entirely lacking any drama or discussion: Erin Elizabeth Allbritton. (Aaron Kinsella Allbritton). I especially like that latter option -- what was I thinking missing the opportunity to have a child with the initials "AKA" ?!
Don't remember much about the rest of that day -- beyond reversing LLGA's seat to be forward-facing (and discovering, to my utter horror!) that the vehicle seat was not fully attached to the floor in 2 of 4 latching points -- as sheer exhaustion hit all of us, crablets included.
Big girls see where the van is careening.Lucypalooza photos.
Icing with APC
The best part!
She touched the cake, which apparently bit her...
No crying on Lucypalooza!
Charlie did not experience that reaction to the icing.

Jack found a candle, thankfully.
Mandatory cake sequence...but it didn't touch her lips.
Cake eyes without cake calories?? How can that be?!
and
Effect

The toy she's holding was absent a piece within minutes. After a frenzied search, we found the half-a-car inside the gray box false-bottom pictured here and, worse, inside the recycling container outside...in the dark, after the sprinkler had run. Oh, yeah.
