Dispatch from Camp SOSO, Sunday
First, the Glitches:
Glitch 1. The CQ (not assigned responsibility for packing beyond those commensurate with her role as Laundry Frau in Chief) learns that no single-use camera had been procured by The Crab Who Shall Not Be Identified for J-crab, Sr. at 7:41 a.m.
CQ ran (literally...a most scary early-morning sight) into Von's and slid Mr. Provider's credit card for $19.99 waterproof/sandproof/hopefully-Jack-proof camera.
The subsequent 12 minutes were spent in a targeted lecture on the finer points of camp photography (as Patty Kiki had brought us last year's developed prints -- a whopping 13 out of 27 exposures, of which several were feet, others were rocks, and only 2 had people featured ... none of whom were Jack, or could be identified for that matter). Key points included:
* Taking photos of people
* Taking photos of activities
* Making sure that half the photos have oneself in the frame by asking others to take the photo on one's camera
* Only taking photos of flora, fauna, and dirt/sand/rocks that are not readily found in San Diego or -- especially -- in our very yard
* Using all 27 photos.
CQ did linger until the motor coach arrived at the rendezvous location. Then, I split. No time for emotion as I had two other Castle inhabitants to shoo off to their departure point.
Glitch 2. The realization about 2 hours after the fact that I neglected to procure any type of seasickness medicine -- not even the wrist bands. Oops. 26 miles of ferry ride over the open ocean to arrive at Catalina Island, where the campsite is housed. Oops. As of this posting, no word from Camp Hurls A Lot. Remember this is the child who was violently ill following a floating dock field trip and proceeded to hurl on the corner of the school building hours later. The good news is there are 10 adult leaders and 30 scouts so there's a strong adult presence and good likelihood that someone may remedy this situation on the ride homeward.
Glitch 3. MOTY failed to write/send correspondence to camp for Jack. May try to send a note tomorrow but the cruel truth is that I have happy b-day godson and condolence cards left in my stash. Maybe a new baby card. Hmmm...the boy has a twisted sense of humor so may send whatever I can find and hope he smiles.
Glitch 4. He Who Shall Not Be Named But Suffered from Bossy-pantsitis during the packing frenzy failed to pack Jamie's sinus rinse bottle. When he called to check in this evening (sounding positive that the Castle would be in chaos and sounding positively suspicious at the quietude and orderliness and bath-giving that was reported), this fact was shared. The response was somewhere between a grunt of acknowledgment and a grunt of dismissal. Apparently, the J-crab, Jr. locale is not running like the good ship USS Squared Away that the Naval Crab approves. But he does have a camera (thanks to CQ) so at least he can photo-document the disorganization.
Meanwhile, the non-J-crab-crablets and I enjoyed a trifecta of fastfood pleasantries (thinking of it as a County Fair without the County Fair admission):
Krispy Kreme for breakfast
The Der for lunch
and
Carl's Jr. for dinner.
It's not healthy but it does get you through a long, long Sunday.
Also fit in a run to Blockbuster (rented "He's just not into you"...blah) and filled the minivan's gas tank.
T-minus 11 hours to Charlie's annual physical, which as Ben said, "will be a dramatic occasion." Praying no innoculations are ordered...
CQ out.
