Grandma MK now has 2 small window A/C units in her home-away-from-home, courtesy of a last-minute plea from me. I hefted an A/C into my cart at Costco and lurched it into the Windstar and determined my lugging day was done. Mercifully, the Chief Warrant Officer of these United States' Navy rescued a GMK in distress. (After much pleasant weather, the temperature wavered to the upper 80s and humidity was registered...not to mention we were cleaning yesterday).

Lessons Learned about Operating Paper-Shredders
By: Grandma Mary Kay (ghostwritten by the Crab Queen, natch)

1. The 5-sheet-max is not merely guidance -- it's an order.
2. It is not loyal to laugh when your daughter (trying to unclog the 10-sheet sheaf that you attempted to jam through) whacks herself in the nose with a pair of pliers.
3. Said daughter will threaten you with plier-related bodily injury.
4. Things with adhesive (stickers, etc.) should go through 1 sheet at a time.
5. Per APC: non-commercial-grade shredders (i.e., cheap Target (TM) versions priced under $40) should not exceed 50 sheets or 20 minutes of use in any given calendar day. The fact that the Crab Queen had bales of paper awaiting shredding does not matter to the cheap-ass shredder. It doesn't care.
6. When the motor housing is flaming hot to the touch, it's probably cooking the paper, not shredding it. Cooking as in combustible.
7. Shredding, while a handy skill, need not be one's sole contribution to the Massive Operation Paper-Reduction Sort-Fest that is in process. If you can read and speak aloud, you can directly participate in the joy of Sort-Fest.
8. Paper jams can be unclogged by reverse, removing individual strips with pliers (keeping one's nose far from the machinery) and even sometimes with just a simple operational pause. They should not be unclogged with one's fingers while the cord is still engaged in the electrical outlet. This not only jeopardizes one's digits, but could precipitate labor and delivery of -- if not an LLGA -- a major shriek-a-thon from the LLGA's vessel here on earth.
9. Safety first!
