Guest Blogger: Pa of Sand Crab, on the Occasion of the Son's Flame-Spray
Congratulations on your scorched butt. Your Grandfather Jim would be extremely proud of you. You may have heard this story before, but it bears/bares repeating.
During W W 2, your Grandpa Jim was a Medic, an Airborne Ranger, the Army's oldest PFC (because he had turned down an appointment to OCS) and the proud bearer of the nickname, Lootin' Willy. Your Mother has inherited some very nice jewelry from Von Poppen's home in Germany. He was attached to Patton's 3rd Army, Long Range Recon outfit and saw Georgie Patton on a regular basis.
One evening, he and another soldier got drunk and shaved a "V for Victory" in their hair in order to display their patriotism. The next morning, he and his fellow patriot were sporting their designer hairdos about 3rd Army Headquarters and had the pleasure of being seen by Ol' Blood and Guts, hisself (a little southern colloquialism for flavor), who took exception to their non-regulation haircut and promptly chewed them out royally while they were suffering from a good ol' fashioned GI hangover. Needless to say, they ended up with totally shaved heads, post haste.
Your Grandpa was quite proud of this great honor, after all, we are talking about world class braggin' rights.
For what it's worth, you're one up on your Grandpa, you got chewed out by a 4 star, he got yelled at by a mere 3 star.
Enjoy your fame.
God bless and Semper Fi,
Sgt. Dad
