Happy Deployment-Awareness Day!

Part 3 of Series.

The delivery guy seemed a little shocked at the photography...I told him in 48-49 years, flower deliveries could be counted on one hand for the recipient. (Flower dude arrived before the groceries were unloaded upon GMK's return...Perfect timing).

The little felt heart attached to the vase was a sweet touch.

"To the Girls at [our address]"

"Happy Valentine's Day, Mike."

Happy Grim Saturday Awareness

Part 2 of Series.

Only partially sated by the delightful greeting card and accustomed to Individually Augmenting my deployment holidays, I snagged some whimsy for the Castle -- at oh-such-a-deal prices from StoryPeople.

"Just what I wanted!"

Happy Unimaginative, Consumerist-Oriented, & Entirely Arbitrary/Capricious/Shallow Interpretation of Romance Day

Part 1 of Series

Apparently, greeting cards are not available just anywhere in the Sand Box. Therefore, folks like the Combat Crab depend upon care packages distributed from Joe & Joan Q Citizen to our troops.

So, thanks to some anonymous person's donation, I received this timely greeting card -- a week ago:

I've always been a fan of the "porno' bear" (my articulation error as a youngster) and the ice floe is a nice touch. I also liked the irony of the point of origin being pretty much the antithesis of a polar region.

Sure, it seemed like Tim's breakfast-making endeavor was uneventful...

GMK observed that, for the first time in ages, Tim's self-made breakfast (toast and jelly) did not destroy the kitchen. (Specifically, the 9x12 ft. galley).

BUT...no sooner did GMK need to depart the premises with Jack in tow -- destined for Vision Therapy and Little League practice, then I discovered to my HORROR an upended bottle of Lucy-ade. Where once there was 2-1/4 oz. of milk, there was now GASP! SHRIEK! GNASH! but 1-1/2 oz. And 3/4 oz. using my powers of subtraction all over the inside of the refrigerator door. *Note that Gasp, Shriek, Gnash does not necessarily equate to Wipe*

GMK placed the bottle (as asked) in the refrigerator for me last night. GMK evidently did not consider Jelly Access issues when so doing.

Writing off that wasted precious fluid, I proceeded to the stovetop to start a pot of water to heat up WHAT LITTLE MILK REMAINED.

But the entire left side of the stovetop wouldn't light. How strange because the entire right side lit just fine. Somewhat flighty from the burst of gas fumes, I mumbled to myself "It can't be the pilot, since they all share a pilot." I proceeded to prepare the warm gruel and feed LLGA.

Eventually, covered in a lovely paste of rice cereal, I reconsidered the Mystery of the Odd Stovetop. And inspected the contact surfaces underneath the top. What strange gooey substance has accumulated around the connections, wondered I. Grabbing a handy knife, in best CSI mode, I scraped a sample and peered closer.

Yep. Grape preserves.

All this independent living skill demonstration is not what it's cracked up to be.

Friday the 13th was a lucky day for the Castle's inhabitants...who'd have thunk it?

I played the How Many Different Shades of Pink Can LLGA Wear? game.

Answer: 2 many!

================================

Greatly enjoyed a Salted Carmel Signature Hot Chocolate (TM) with Patty Grace. My shirt did not find its topical application quite so satisfying; however, GMK seems to have rendered it back to its previous creamy color. I think I was more distressed by the charming banner of chocolate down my front (in public) and by the forfeiture of several sips than I was by the notion that I might have to retire the top.

It was my first such outing in more than a MONTH. Resolved, I shall be less hermit-like in March. [Patty Triplets, let's get 8 kids healthy on one day!]

============================

If that weren't enough, every day is Sunnier when the words "Cole" and "Hahn" are uttered (in hushed tones, of course):

Just to maintain my euphoria of seeing people I adore...
Patty Sandi stopped by for a visit while in town.

Her first meeting of M-ELA warranted some photos.

And in a stunning development, arriving in an innocent-looking amazon.com box:

Rendering sensical this previously-mysterious missive:

Happy [redacted, because this is a Singles-Awareness-Day-free zone] from the Melins. We love you and life is just not as "rock'n" without you around. Though this will undoubtedly drive mom crazy over the long weekend, we know she can Jam with the best of them and show you young wipper snappers that "She's a Brick House"

Don't go blind or become deviants on our account. Thank you for showering
us with gifts for the past year and not asking [Jack] where is my photo album?
because it will come when it comes.

Almost got dueling guitars then [came to my partial senses, as she sent this anyway].

Patty Kiki

I plan to ROCK this weekend.
Or at least nurse a serious headache.

Family Life Mastery Grade = F ! Overheard (and heads swiveled violently) in the Sand Castle:

J-crab,the senior, referencing the "Octomom" situation...in a hushed tone:"I think they may have to abort a couple of the babies."

Me and GMK (in unison): "GASP!"

Me: "Jack, they're already born."

Jack, quite horrified: "Does that mean they would kill them?"

Me: "Where on earth did you hear this? Nobody is going to kill them. Babies this tiny have a lot of challenges and they are in Intensive Care."

Jack: "Whew!"

*** Later I realized that the conversation he overheard must have referenced "adopt" or the TV show may have mentioned "abortion" and he got tense-confused.

Minutes elapse.

And then J-crab, Senior returns for Round Two:
"This must mean that the [air-quote, Jack's favorite gesture] Octo-Mom has a problem with tampons and pads."

GMK and me (again in unison): "PAH!" and bust out giggling.

Me: "I'm really thinking that the ol' Family Life unit didn't cover things like it did in my day."

Pause to let that sink in.

Me: "Did you mean condoms?"

Jack (horrified but in a whole different way than Round One): "Mom! Maybe, I think."

***We had a quick tutorial on IVF (without benefit of A/V equipment or Shepard Smith).

It's ALWAYS something in the Castle. Some new fresh take on reality that isn't quite baked through.
